Deep Plane facelift
A deep plane facelift targets deep structures beneath the skin, specifically the deeper facial musculature or underlying facial muscles. The procedure involves repositioning and lifting the deeper tissues, releasing some ligaments resulting in a comprehensive and natural facelift.
Recovery time 2 to 3 weeks.
Results can last 10-15 years.
Mini Facelift
A mini facelift is a less invasive option that doesn't require as much surgery. It's ideal for patients who have minimal wrinkles and sagging skin, generally younger patients. It can be performed as a day case under a local anaesthesia. A mini facelift allows minimal time off however you must not have too much excess skin.
Recovery 1 to 2 weeks.
Results can last 5-7 years.
Lower Facelift and SMAS
A lower facelift, also known as a jowl lift, is a type of facelift that focuses on the lower half of the face. It's a good option for patients who have drooping skin in the jawline and chin area and around the marionette lines (nose to mouth lines) and some cheek droop.
The SMAS facelift tightens and lifts the SMAS layer, the middle and lower parts of the face. The SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) layer lies beneath the subcutaneous tissue and above the deeper muscles and ligaments. It focuses on skin laxity around the cheek area, jowls and sad mouth look. It can also help lift the neck, if the neck is not too saggy. This is a popular option for working people who can’t afford a lot of time off work and want to focus on the lower half of the face.
Recovery 1 to 2 weeks.
Results can lasat 10-15 years.

Factors Affecting Facelift Cost
The cost of a facelift can vary significantly depending on several factors, including:
- Type of Facelift Procedure: Different types of facelifts, such as mini facelifts, traditional full facelifts, and deep plane facelifts, have varying costs due to differences in surgical complexity and technique.
- Surgeon's Expertise and Qualifications: Surgeon's fees are a significant part of the total cost, especially for those employing the most advanced techniques. The surgeon's expertise and qualifications can impact the cost of the facelift, with highly experienced surgeons who use the most advanced techniques often charging higher rates. Nothing replaces experience and expertise. Make sure you check that the plastic surgeon you choose:
- Is on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery and Reconstruction;
- Is experienced in many types of facelifts, neck lifts and facial surgery;
- Performs facelifts regularly and in meaningful numbers.
- Additional Procedures: Combining a facelift with other cosmetic procedures, such as a neck lift or brow lift, will increase the total cost. Surgeons often recommend that procedures such as eyelid surgery, eye bag removal surgery, fat transfer, brow lift or neck lift be performed at the same time as a facelift to achieve a better outcome;
- Anaesthesia: A procedure performed under general anaesthesia or sedation will typically be more expensive that a procedure under local anaesthesia. Please note that some facelifts, because they require absolute immobility from the patient or last several hours, must be done under a general anaesthesia.
- Hospital Stay: In some cases, the procedure will be performed as a day case. This means that the patient goes home on the same day of the operation. In other cases, however, the surgeon and / or anaesthetist may require that the patient has an overnight stay in hospital (generally for one night) for a safer recovery. This will have an impact on the cost. This is generally advised for more comprehensive surgery and/ or with health issues.
- Location: Facelift costs can vary depending on the location of the clinic or hospital, with urban areas tending to be more expensive than rural areas. However it can also mean that an area such as Harley street has a higher concentration of expert Cosmetic Surgeons.
- Post operative care: Some hospitals / providers will charge additional fees for post-operative care. It is important that you ask for full information about this when considering a facelift. At Kensington Medical, all our aftercare is included in the facelift price.
- Surgeon consultation: Initial consultation fees can range from £100 to £300, and these may not be deducted from the final surgery cost. Patients should ask about any additional fees that may not be included in the initial facelift cost estimate. Many clinics offer financing options for facelift surgery, allowing patients to pay in instalments.
We charge £200 for the pre-operative face to face consultation with the surgeon and this includes a second consultation which can be via zoom or face to face. We find patients have further questions following the first consultation and so a follow up ensures both patient and surgeon are happy about the treatment plan. This is included in the consultation price.

The procedure that you and your surgeon decide upon will determine the cost of the anaesthesia. General anaesthesia is more expensive than local anaesthesia. A facelift often requires general anaesthesia.
At Kensington Medical our plastic surgeons favour TIVA (Total Intravenous Anaesthesia), which is used for deep sedation and general anaesthesia. TIVA has a number of advantages over conventional anaesthetic gases for the patient:
- The amount of anaesthetic agent can be more easily controlled;
- The most appropriate dose can always be given with reduced risk of nausea and vomiting after surgery and
- A quicker recovery time.
Both general anaesthesia and deep sedation will be performed by a consultant anaesthetist.

The hospital charge covers the use of the surgical facility and experienced nursing staff and when necessary the cost of the overnight stay. The charge will differ based on the location of the facility and the type of facility. At Kensington Medical we have chosen the best hospitals and based on the location, you can choose where you would like to have your operation. Our specialist hospitals include:
- 152 Harley Street, central London, W1

How to Save Money on a Facelift
You can save money by combining procedures, and having more than one procedure done simultaneously. Our surgeons often recommend combining a facelift with an upper eyelid lift or lower eye bag removal. Another popular combination is to include a neck lift or liposuction to neck to remove excess fat or fat transfer. Combining facelift surgery with other procedures, such as laser resurfacing, can help save money and provide better overall results by enhancing facial rejuvenation and achieving more natural, long-lasting outcomes.

How do you choose a Surgeon and Clinic with the cost in mind.
When considering facelift surgery, selecting the right surgeon and clinic is one of the most important decisions you will make on your journey to a more youthful appearance. Leading clinics will have expert cosmetic surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing staff dedicated to providing the highest standard of care throughout your surgical procedure and recovery process.
- Initial Consultation: During your initial consultation, your surgeon should thoroughly assess your facial structure, skin quality, and skin laxity to recommend the most suitable facelift technique for your needs. This is also the time to discuss any additional procedures you may be considering, such as eyelid surgery, neck lift, as combining treatments can make be cheaper (with fewer hospital visits and therefore costs). Plus it is one recovery.
- Experience matters: It’s essential to choose a surgeon with extensive experience in performing facelifts. This means they should be on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery. They should not be just a general surgeon. At Kensington Medical our plastic surgeons are all on the GMC Specialist Register for plastic surgery. They have decades of experience and have a specialty in facial surgery.
- Transparency: A reputable clinic will provide transparent information about the cost makeup of a facelift, breaking it down in its various components, in accordance with the requirements of the Competition And Markets Authority (CMA) through its Private Healthcare Market Investigation Order 2014. They should also be open about the potential risks, expected downtime, and the realistic final results you can expect from your chosen facelift. Kensington Medical will always give you a full comprehensive quote which will include the surgeon fee, the anaesthesia cost, the hospital charges, and the cost of aftercare services.
- Safety and expertise are important: While it may be tempting to focus on finding the lowest facelift prices, prioritising quality and safety is key. Opting for a highly qualified cosmetic surgeon and a respected clinic may involve a higher upfront investment, but it can help you avoid complications and achieve the youthful appearance you desire.
In summary, we believe you should take the time to research, ask questions, and ensure you feel confident in your surgeon’s expertise and the clinic’s standards.
