At Kensington Medical, jowl lift surgery, also known as a lower facelift, starts from £10,500. This includes the surgeon's fee, hospital costs, anaesthesia and post-operative care.
The final price depends on your individual treatment requirements, the complexity of surgery and whether any additional procedures are recommended. You will receive a personalised quotation following your consultation.
A jowl lift is designed to improve sagging jowls, restore jawline definition and address loose skin in the lower face. It may also improve mild to moderate neck laxity, depending on the surgical technique used.
Our consultant plastic surgeons, Mr Paul Tulley, Mr David Gateley and Mr Amir Sadri, offer personalised advice about whether a lower facelift, mini facelift or another surgical approach is most appropriate for you.
What is a Jowl Lift?
A jowl lift, also known as a lower facelift is a surgical procedure designed to improve sagging jowls, restore jawline definition and address loose skin in the lower face. Depending on the surgical technique used, it may also improve marionette lines and mild to moderate neck laxity.
During surgery, the plastic surgeon repositions underlying facial tissues and removes excess skin where appropriate. It can restore a more defined jawline and create more natural looking lower facial contours, with a focus to preserving the patient's individual facial characteristics.
Causes and Effects of Sagging Jowls
Jowls develop as part of the natural ageing process. Over time, changes in collagen, skin elasticity, facial fat and the deeper supporting tissues can cause the lower cheeks to descend, creating sagging along the jawline. Genetics, sun exposure, weight changes and smoking may also influence their development.
As jowls become more noticeable, the jawline can lose definition and the lower face may appear heavier. For some people, these changes create a difference between how they look and how they feel. The most appropriate treatment depends on whether the main concern is loose skin, descended facial tissues, volume loss or a combination of these factors.
How Do You Get Rid of Sagging Jowls?
The most appropriate treatment for sagging jowls depends on their severity, the quality of the skin and whether the concern is caused primarily by volume loss or descent of the underlying facial tissues.
Non-surgical treatments may offer modest improvements for early signs of ageing. Surgical procedures provide more substantial repositioning of sagging tissues.
Dermal Fillers
Most patients who choose dermal fillers will have mild to moderate jowling or volume loss who are not ready for surgery.
Dermal fillers may help improve facial contours where volume loss contributes to the appearance of jowls. Carefully placed filler in selected areas, such as the cheeks, can sometimes make the jawline appear more balanced.
However, fillers do not physically lift sagging facial tissues or remove excess skin, and the results are only temporary. They are not suitable for every patient.
Skin Tightening Treatments
Non-surgical treatments such as Ultherapy and certain radiofrequency procedures aim to stimulate collagen production and may provide modest improvements in skin firmness.
Results vary and are generally less substantial than surgical correction of pronounced jowls. Patients with significant skin laxity or tissue descent may benefit more from a surgical assessment.
Surgical Treatment for Sagging Jowls
For more noticeable jowling, a lower facelift or another suitable facelift technique can reposition underlying tissues and address excess skin to improve jawline definition.
The most appropriate option may be a mini facelift, lower facelift, SMAS facelift or deep plane facelift, depending on the patient's anatomy and the extent of facial ageing.
Am I suitable for jowl lift surgery?
Ideal candidates for jowl lift surgery are individuals who are concerned about the appearance of sagging jowls, loose skin, and excess fat in the lower face and neck. They may have noticed a loss of definition in the jawline, a double chin, or an overall aged appearance. Candidates should be in good physical health, have realistic expectations, and be willing to follow a comprehensive recovery plan.
Those who are most suitable for this procedure often find that non surgical treatments are no longer effective in addressing their concerns. If you are experiencing significant sagging jowls and loose skin that impact your confidence and overall appearance, jowl lift surgery may be the ideal solution to achieve a more youthful and defined look.
At Kensington Medical, our consultant plastic surgeons can advise whether a lower facelift, mini facelift or another technique would be the most appropriate approach for your individual concerns.
What Are the Surgical Options for Sagging Jowls?
There are several surgical techniques that can improve sagging jowls and restore jawline definition. The most appropriate procedure depends on the degree of facial ageing, skin laxity, the position of the underlying tissues and whether the neck also requires treatment.
Lower Facelift or Jowl Lift
A lower facelift focuses on improving sagging jowls, lower facial contours and jawline definition. Depending on the technique, it may also address some degree of neck laxity. It is often considered by patients whose main concern is the lower third of the face.
Mini Facelift
A mini facelift may be suitable for patients with early to moderate jowling who require a more limited surgical correction. The extent of lifting and recovery varies depending on the technique and individual patient.
SMAS Facelift
A SMAS facelift involves repositioning or tightening the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, a supporting layer beneath the skin. It can improve sagging cheeks, jowls and lower facial contours.
Deep Plane Facelift
A deep plane facelift involves releasing selected retaining ligaments and repositioning deeper facial tissues. It may be recommended for patients requiring more extensive correction of facial tissue descent.
Which Facelift Is Best for Jowls?
No single facelift technique is appropriate for everyone. At Kensington Medical, your surgeon will assess your anatomy and explain which procedure is most likely to meet your goals, including the potential benefits, limitations and recovery involved.

The cost of jowl lift surgery can vary depending on the surgical technique, complexity of the procedure and whether additional treatments are recommended.

Why Does the Cost of Jowl Lift Surgery Vary?

When considering surgery, it is important to assess the surgeon's qualifications, relevant experience, hospital facilities and aftercare arrangements alongside the price.

Recovery and Results
Initial recovery after jowl lift surgery commonly takes around one to two weeks, although this varies depending on the surgical technique and individual healing. Swelling, bruising and tightness are common during the early recovery period, and some patients may need longer before feeling comfortable returning to work or social activities.
Your surgeon will provide personalised aftercare instructions, including advice on sleeping position, exercise, wound care and follow-up appointments. Swelling can continue to settle over several weeks or months, and the final results develop gradually.
Jowl lift surgery can provide long lasting improvements in lower facial contours. However, the duration of results varies between patients and is influenced by factors such as skin quality, facial anatomy, following a healthy lifestyle, avoiding the direct sun, and the effects of the natural ageing process.
Choosing the Right Surgeon for Your Jowl Lift
Choosing an appropriately qualified and experienced plastic surgeon is an important part of planning jowl lift surgery. You should consider the surgeon's specialist registration, experience with facial rejuvenation, previous patient results and approach to aftercare.

Addressing a Double Chin Alongside Jowl Concerns
Sagging jowls and fullness beneath the chin can occur together, although they may have different underlying causes. Jowling is often associated with changes in facial tissues and skin elasticity, while a double chin may result from excess fat, skin laxity or a combination of factors.
A neck lift may be recommended for patients with loose neck skin or muscle laxity. Where excess fat beneath the chin is a significant concern, your surgeon may also consider chin liposuction. Some patients may benefit from combining procedures to improve lower facial and neck contours. In some instances our plastic surgeons will carry out a small micro liposuction to remove some small pockets of fat under the chin. Chin liposuction can give effective results.
A deep plane facelift may improve jowling and certain aspects of neck contour, but it does not automatically remove excess fat beneath the chin. The appropriate technique depends on your individual anatomy and treatment goals.
During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will assess the lower face and neck and explain which treatment options may be suitable.
Full Facelift vs Mini Facelift
When considering facial rejuvenation, it’s important to understand the differences between a full facelift and a mini facelift. A full facelift is designed to address more extensive facial sagging, particularly in the cheeks, jowls and lower face. Depending on the surgical approach, it may also include correction of neck laxity. A full facelift does not automatically treat concerns affecting the forehead or upper eyelids.
In contrast, a mini facelift is a less invasive surgical treatment that focuses primarily on the lower face, targeting concerns such as sagging jowls and mild to moderate skin laxity. The mini facelift involves smaller incisions and typically offers a shorter recovery time, making it an appealing option for those with good skin elasticity and less extensive signs of ageing.
The choice between a full facelift and a mini facelift depends on your unique facial anatomy, the degree of sagging, and your desired outcome. Consulting with a reputable surgeon is essential to determine which procedure will best address your concerns and deliver natural, harmonious results.
Can a Jowl Lift Be Combined with Other Procedures?
A jowl lift primarily addresses sagging in the lower face and jawline. Some patients may benefit from an additional procedure if they also have concerns affecting the neck, eyelids or brow.
Neck Lift
A neck lift may be recommended where loose neck skin, muscle laxity or excess fat contributes to a loss of definition beneath the jawline. Depending on the facelift technique and individual treatment plan, some neck correction may already be included.
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Upper or lower eyelid surgery can address concerns such as excess upper eyelid skin or prominent lower eyelid bags. It may be considered separately or alongside a facelift.
Brow Lift
A brow lift may help improve a low brow position and associated heaviness around the upper eyes. It is not routinely required with a jowl lift, but may be discussed when patients have concerns about both areas.
Combining procedures is not suitable for everyone. Your surgeon will assess the potential benefits, additional risks, recovery requirements and costs before recommending a personalised treatment plan.
