What is Ultherapy and how does it work?

Ultherapy is a non-surgical, FDA-approved technology* that uses ultrasound to stimulate the creation of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin.

It is considered one of the best non-surgical skin tightening treatments that will be available in the UK in 2022. It is the only FDA-approved HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) treatment and can produce firmer and tighter skin using a non-invasive method. Ultherapy is one of the treatments offered by Kensington Medical.

Ultherapy only requires one treatment and patients can normally get back to their daily routine straight after the procedure. During this treatment, areas beneath the skin will be targeted with a high intensity beam of ultrasound to promote the production of collagen and elastin. This should leave you with firmer skin and improve the effects of wrinkles and jowls.

Your surgeon or laser technician will clean the regions they intend to focus on of any oil or build-up and apply an ultrasound gel. The Ultherapy technology is set against the skin and adjusted to the appropriate settings by the practitioner on hand. Ultrasound energy is then sent to the designated regions. Some ultherapy treatments can last up to 90 minutes depending on the area to be treated.

Target areas of Ultherapy

Ultherapy is very versatile and can be used to treat various areas including:

  • The upper face
  • The lower face
  • The neck
  • The decolletage

Benefits of Ultherapy

Ultherapy is widely considered the best non-surgical skin tightening treatment currently available because of its effect on increasing the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.

Collagen is a protein that makes up the connective tissue in your body. Elastin is another protein that allows your skin to get back to its typical shape even after being stretched out of place. As your skin loses its collagen and elastin, it loses its plumpness and elasticity. When this occurs, it begins to hang and sag, because of gravity.

Here are the benefits of choosing Ultherapy as a treatment:

  • It is non-invasive and non-surgical, so there is no downtime. You can resume your day-to-day activities immediately post-treatment.
  • It promotes the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.
  • It improves skin tightness and firmness.
  • It lifts and reduces sagging skin and wrinkles.
  • It is a soft alternative to facelifts and is particularly popular with patients, who are unsure about going ahead with surgery.
  • It is often used in conjunction with fillers and wrinkle-relaxing injections.
